Deadly Vows

“I will never let God’s light come within!”
“I will never trust my family again!”
“I will never leave my wife, my beloved to the end!”

These were the words that I built my foundation.
I constructed fortified walls to protect my earnest declaration.
Men with bow and arrows guarded up high day and night,
Keeping away other truths that may breach and prove to be right.
I wouldn’t hear it and if uttered, orders were sent to be struck down.
My castle of deadly vows was secure and protected from all other sounds.
I was Lord of my realm, draped with my heavy, melancholic cloath,
Trapped by total surrender to this dark deadly oath.

Though my walls were impenetrable and guarded night and day,
An intruder from the other side was able to find a lighted way.
This “threat” snuck past my best knights and guarded doors.
She found me locked in my chambers, bent over and crying on the floor.
I felt her presence, pulsating, radiating from across the room.
I dared not look up. I knew her light would enter my hidden tomb.
My grasp on my vows tightened, as I feared what she would say and do.
You see, I said my vows with the binding word “never”, so they had to remain true.

They were mine…my wall…my protection against my past and potential regrets.
But I still cried. I still felt others’ disappointments that appeasement could never fix.
I was hurt and broken, but I didn’t want to give it up!
It was poisoned wine that I willingly drank from the cup.
And yet here she was, Lady Light from House of God, the Most High
Here to lead me back to the truth, but I still needed to let go of the lie.

She moved in closer, pushing past my words of resistance. My cries became louder.
The light now hovered over me until my fleeting vows no longer mattered.
Soon the fight in me diminished and my eyes looked her way.
Eyes so pure and full of the type of love I dreamed would stay.

She smiled and grabbed my tired…cramped hands.
I said, “Wait, my vows, I still have to pay the debt it demands!”
She said, “We’ve paid the price with blood not from a normal man.
And we have prepared the way for you. Are you ready to trust in His divine plan?”
I screamed, “Yes!” as I gathered all my strength to boldly stand.

My vows hit the floor and disappeared into dark vapors carried by the air.
Walls crumbled around me and my protectors vanished until nothing was there.
It was just me and Lady Light standing on solid ground for all to see.
I was no longer hidden, but exposed for there to be more of me.
My deadly vows met Light and the demands to abide no longer exist.
Love, Peace, Joy, and Hope…my home and nothing is better, sweeter than this!
